Verdict: The 85x ends up with the same overall score as the 85 — 6.2 — but gets there a different way. You gain AWD traction and a proper 175 kW charging speed (finally), but give up the efficiency lead and pay €2,250 more for the privilege. From what I've seen in owner forums, most 85x buyers are in colder climates where AWD confidence matters more than the extra kWh/100 km on the WLTP sheet. Skoda Enyaq 85x 2025: The AWD Numbers Nobody Puts on the Box

544 km WLTP. 175 kW DC. 77 kWh usable. Two motors, AWD, 2,000 kg towing — and a ground clearance that's lower than any other Enyaq variant. I spent time going through owner charging logs, winter range threads, and real traction comparisons. Here's what doesn't make it onto the brochure page.

The 85x is built on the same 82 kWh NMC pack as the 85 RWD — but everything else is different. Front asynchronous motor added. Turning circle jumps. Ground clearance drops to 167 mm. And — counterintuitively — the 85x charges faster at peak than the cheaper 85. Worth understanding before you decide between the two.

1 Two Motors, One Pack — What's Actually Under the Floor 82 kWh gross · NMC · AWD

Same 82 kWh gross / 77 kWh usable NMC pack as the RWD 85. The BMS holds back around 5 kWh — you're never touching it. What's different is everything above the battery. 2 DC Charging — Why 175 kW Beats the RWD 85 NMC · 175 kW peak

Here's the thing that surprises almost everyone: the 85x charges at 175 kW peak — 40 kW more than the cheaper 85 RWD at 135 kW. Same battery, same chemistry, but the 85x got the faster charging hardware. The practical difference is meaningful. 3 Real-World Range — AWD Tax Is Real, Here's How Much 77 kWh · AWD

The WLTP gap between the 85 RWD (581 km) and the 85x (544 km) is 37 km — about 6%. In reality, owners comparing both in similar conditions put the AWD penalty at roughly 20–35 km on a mixed motorway run. Not catastrophic, but real. The front motor draws energy even when decoupled through bearing drag and thermal losses — it's not free.

Summer trip computer at 100% charge: 85x owners typically see 300–310 miles (480–500 km) in warmer months. 5 V2H, Towing 2,000 kg and What Owners Actually Ask About MY25 specific

Towing — the 85x's Biggest Practical Advantage

2,000 kg braked (at 12% gradient). That's the number that separates the 85x from the rest of the Enyaq lineup — the 60 and 85 RWD cap out at 1,200 kg. If you're pulling a caravan, a heavier horse trailer, or a twin-axle leisure trailer, the 85x is the only non-RS option that can handle it. Towing any significant load will hit range hard — owners report consumption rising to 25–30 kWh/100 km when towing at motorway speeds. Plan charging stops accordingly.

V2H — Same Deal as the 85 RWD

The 85x gets V2H (Vehicle to Home) bidirectional DC charging — same as the 85 RWD, same hardware, same caveats. The compatible Skoda DC bidirectional wallbox was still in development as of early 2026. V2L is not available — no socket, no adapter. I went through a lot of material from people who actually live with the 85x — owners who came from earlier RWD Enyaqs, people arriving from petrol Skodas and SEATs, and a few who spent weeks deciding between the standard 85 and the AWD before pulling the trigger. 1 Why the 85x — What Actually Pushed Owners Over the Line

If you look at the spec sheet, the 85x case is hard to justify. Both cars hit 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds, both top out at 112 mph (180 km/h), and the RWD 85 officially covers 359 miles (578 km) WLTP versus 332 miles (534 km) for the AWD. You pay more for less range and the same sprint time. Everyone who bought the 85x already knew this when they signed.
