Berlin, November 2025. Tesla proudly announces new milestones at its Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, located in Grünheide near Berlin. As Tesla’s first European factory, it has become a symbol of the continent’s transition to sustainable energy and mobility. In 2025, the site reached 800,000 vehicles annual capacity, introduced the refreshed Model Y Juniper, and expanded battery production with cutting-edge 4680 cells.
Gigafactory Berlin is Tesla’s showcase of innovation in Europe. It combines vehicle production, battery manufacturing, and energy systems under one roof. The site is renowned for its Giga Press casting machines, structural battery packs, and sustainable operations powered by renewable energy. It is the first Tesla plant in Europe to integrate energy storage solutions alongside vehicle production.
Gigafactory Berlin became the first European site to deploy Giga Press machines with pressures up to 9,000 tons. These giant casting machines replace dozens of welded components with a single aluminum piece. For the rear body of Model Y, the number of parts dropped from ~70 to just one single casting. This innovation reduces production costs, increases rigidity, and improves crash safety — setting a new global standard in automotive manufacturing.
Tesla introduced 4680 cylindrical cells (46×80 mm) at Berlin, delivering 5× more energy per cell and 6× more power. Automotive packs use NCA/NCM chemistry for high energy density, while stationary systems employ LFP chemistry. LFP batteries are particularly interesting: they are cheaper, safer, and last longer, making them ideal for home and grid storage solutions. Structural integration of packs improves vehicle rigidity and reduces weight, while reducing overall production costs by 15–20%.
Tesla plans further expansion of Gigafactory Berlin, aiming to strengthen its role as the company’s European hub. Upcoming projects include preparation for Model 3 production, development of compact EVs tailored for Europe, and increased output of Powerwall and Megapack energy products. Tesla is also exploring new sites in Southern Europe, including Spain and Italy, to optimize logistics and meet growing demand.
Gigafactory Berlin has transformed the Grünheide region. The factory created over 6,000 jobs, many of them accessible without prior automotive experience, boosting employment opportunities for local residents. Tesla also introduced free train shuttles from Berlin to the factory, reducing road traffic and cutting emissions. Local infrastructure was upgraded with new roads, utilities, and public transport links. The plant contributes significantly to Brandenburg’s economy, attracting suppliers and service companies, and positioning the region as a hub for sustainable industry. While environmental debates continue, the factory has undeniably reshaped the area’s economic landscape and daily life of thousands of workers and families.
Gigafactory Berlin is more than a factory — it is Tesla’s strategic hub in Europe. With record-breaking growth, pioneering technologies like Giga Press and 4680 cells, and ambitious expansion plans, it embodies Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
