The Evolution of the
Volkswagen ID.5:
Key Changes and Specifications

2022: Market Launch

  • Versions: The ID.5 launched with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) Pro and Pro Performance version, as well as an all-wheel-drive (AWD) GTX version.
  • Motor: The RWD versions were equipped with the APP310 motor on the rear axle, delivering 150 kW (204 hp). The GTX version used two motors for a combined output of 220 kW (299 hp).
  • Battery: All versions of the ID.5 launched exclusively with the larger 77 kWh (usable capacity) battery.
  • Range: Thanks to its aerodynamic coupe body, the ID.5 Pro had a slightly better WLTP range of up to 537 km. The GTX’s range was up to 500 km.
  • Charging: Maximum DC fast charging speeds were up to 135 kW for all versions.

2024: Major Powertrain Updates

  • New Motor: The main rear motor in the RWD models was upgraded to the new, more powerful and efficient APP550 motor. This boosted the power output to 210 kW (286 hp) and torque to 545 Nm.
  • AWD Performance: The GTX version also received a powertrain update, increasing its total system power to 250 kW (340 hp).
  • Charging Speed: The maximum DC fast charging power was increased to 175 kW for the 77 kWh battery, significantly reducing charging times.
  • Range: Due to these powertrain improvements, the WLTP range for the ID.5 Pro was increased to up to 556 km.
